Martial Arts & Karate for Ages 8 – 13 in Markham
This is the age where martial arts training really starts to take shape.
By age 8, kids are ready to go deeper in the martial arts. Their focus is sharper, their coordination is developing fast, and they’re able to connect the physical and mental sides of martial arts in a way that takes their karate — and their character — to a whole new level. At Superkids Karate in Markham, this is where the journey gets genuinely rewarding.
Our martial arts program for ages 8–13 builds on the karate foundation and progressively opens up into a much broader world of disciplines — at a pace that matches each student’s growth and belt level. Serving families across Markham, Richmond Hill, Unionville, Stouffville, and York Region since 1989.
A Class For Every Level
Whether your child has been training in karate since age 5, or is stepping onto the mat for the very first time at 11, they are welcome here. Our kids martial arts classes in Markham are designed to meet every student exactly where they are.
Students are put into classes by skill level so beginners build their foundation properly and more experienced students keep progressing. No one slips through the cracks.
What Students Take Away from Every Class
- Growing confidence — that shows up at school, at home, and in how they carry themselves
- Improved focus and self-discipline — skills that translate directly into academic and personal success
- Practical self-defence — real-world awareness and techniques for kids and tweens in Markham and Richmond Hill, including how to handle bullying situations with calm and confidence
- Physical fitness — strength, coordination, and agility built through varied and engaging martial arts training
- Respect and responsibility — older students naturally become role models within the dojo community
Where the Martial Arts Journey Really Opens Up
Students who started with us in the younger age group built their karate foundation — the stance, the technique, the discipline. Now that they are more advanced, that foundation starts to expand into a fuller martial arts education.
New students joining our kids karate and martial arts program in Markham at this age begin with karate and move through the belt system at their own pace. As they progress, the curriculum grows with them:
| Kung Fu — fluid, circular movements and traditional forms that contrast and complement karate | Boxing — footwork, combinations, and defence |
| Taekwondo — dynamic, high-flying kicks | Aikido — traditional wrist locks and redirection techniques |
| Kickboxing — combining punches, kicks, and timing | Weapons Training — traditional martial arts weapons introduced at the more advanced belt levels |
Every student progresses through this curriculum at the pace that fits them. The belt system ensures each new discipline is introduced only when the foundation is truly ready for it.
