CHARLOTTE C. (11)
is a creative and imaginative student who always brings her focus to class. She has developed into a consistently dedicated martial artist who comes to train up to 4 times a week.
Charlotte first joined Superkids Karate after her parents encouraged her to give it a try. Since she started, she has always enjoyed the martial arts and her enjoyment has never wavered. Charlotte may not be the loudest student in class, but she lets her actions do the talking. She arrives ready to learn, works hard every lesson, and consistently gives her best effort. She especially enjoys practicing katas and training with the bo staff, taking pride in refining the details of each movement.
Outside the dojo, Charlotte stays active by swimming at the local Community Centre and volunteering as one of her school’s library helpers, where she organizes books and helps prepare for book fairs. When she has free time, her creativity really shines. She loves reading young adult novels, manga, and manhwa, listening to K-pop, creating arts and crafts, writing short fiction stories, and making tiny clay sculptures by hand.
Charlotte is currently a Grade 6 student and is already thinking about her future. Inspired by Mira Kano from Alice in Borderland, she hopes to one day become either a manga artist or a psychologist. Her love of storytelling and creativity makes both dreams a perfect fit.
One fun fact about Charlotte is that she has been an avid reader since Grade 3 and is helping her parents plan their upcoming family trip to Japan. Whether she’s exploring a new book, creating a miniature sculpture, or perfecting a kata, Charlotte approaches everything with curiosity, creativity, and enthusiasm. We are proud to recognize her as August’s Superkid of the Month!
WHAT’S NEW?
If any siblings (4.5 years or older) are interested in getting started in one of our programs, we are doing FREE PRIVATE TRIAL CLASSES (Regular $60) for siblings from August 17th – September 3rd! If there are any extended family or friends of the sibling that are also interested in starting, they could join the trial classes with them too.
To schedule a trial class during this time, you can contact either senseicarter@superkidskarate.ca or senseikwong@superkidskarate.ca. Make sure to mention the relation of the child to the active student.
WHAT STYLE OF KARATE ARE WE PRACTICING AT SUPERKIDS?
All the “KARATE” techniques and most of the katas are from the SHOTOKAN system. Sensei Kwong and Sensei Carter have also dabbled in Kung Fu, Tae Kwon- Do, Escrima/Arnis, Aikido, Jiu-jitsu, boxing and numerous years in Kickboxing. Many of the advanced kicks, blocks and throws are combinations of these different systems. A few good Martial Arts movies have also helped in developing his style (just joking).
The word karate is a combination of two Japanese characters: kara, meaning empty, and te, meaning hand; thus, karate means “empty hand.” Adding the suffix “-do” (pronounced “doe”), meaning “way,” i.e., karate-do, implies karate as a total way of life that goes well beyond the self-defense applications. In traditional karate-do, we always keep in mind that the true opponent is oneself.
