YANIC L.

His karate journey is a true example of growth and confidence. He first started karate at the age of 6 after some encouragement from his dad. At the beginning, it wasn’t something he enjoyed as he saw it more as just another chore in his routine. But instead of giving up, Yanic kept showing up. As he practiced and built his confidence, something changed. Karate began to grow on him. What once felt like a chore turned into something he genuinely looks forward to each week.

Now, Yanic is a green belt and especially loves working through different levels of katas, appreciating both the challenge and the precision required to do them well. He also enjoys sparring, where he can build courage to apply the punches and kicks that he’s learned. Yanic continuously develops his skills and his mindset.

Outside the dojo, Yanic stays busy with a variety of activities. He is currently working toward his Bronze Medallion in swimming and is progressing through piano, now at Level 4, where he had to pass many grueling piano exams. He is also very involved at school as he participated in his school’s kin-ball team and performed in the band for the entire school! In his free time, Yanic enjoys playing video games like Roblox and tower defense games with friends, solving escape rooms, and reading comic-style books like Garfield and other fun series. Yanic loves Garfield so much that he named one of his 4 fish after the orange cat, along with the other fish: Silvey, Loki, and Kuromi.

Yanic is a Grade 6 student at Sainte-Marguerite-Bourgeoys, a French Catholic public school, where he speaks fluent French! Looking ahead, Yanic hopes to become either a doctor specializing in infectious diseases or a scientist as he strives to make a difference in the world.

Yanic’s journey shows that even if something doesn’t click right away, persistence and discipline can turn it into something amazing. His growth, positive attitude, and willingness to learn, make him a truly deserving Superkid of the Month.
