NAOMI & JOCELYN C.
Superkids of the Month for March 2026! Both girls have been part of the Superkids Karate family for 7+ years, growing up with the dojo and showing their dedication, persistence, and character growth along the way. After 7+ years of training, Jocelyn has received her 1st level Brown Belt while Naomi has been training slightly longer and has achieved her 2nd level.
Jocelyn, who is 11 years old and in Grade 6 at Buttonville Public School, first started karate after her dad encouraged her to try it to learn how to protect herself and her family. Over the years she has grown more confident comfortable with learning new techniques. Jocelyn especially enjoys partnering up with other students and trying the skills and techniques on each other.
Outside the dojo, Jocelyn is a forced to be reckoned with. She also enjoys staying active through school sports like basketball, volleyball, and badminton. She sings in her choir, participates in a crochet and knitting club, and has reached Level 7 at Olympic Swim School. When she has some free time, Jocelyn enjoys playing Minecraft with her sister or Roblox with her friends.
Her older sister Naomi, 14, is a Grade 9 student at Pierre Elliott Trudeau High School. Naomi has found her enjoyment in a different aspect of martial arts… weapons. She enjoys learning how to utilize the Bo staff and kali sticks.
Outside of karate, Naomi has been taking art classes for the past two years, where she enjoys expressing her creativity. In her free time, she likes playing video games such as Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rail, and Roblox. She also has some unique hobbies, including sharpening knives, which reflects her attention to detail.
Although Naomi and Jocelyn have different interests and personalities, karate has been a shared part of their lives for many years. Their level of commitment and diligence make them a great pair to recognize as this month’s Superkids of the Month.
STRETCH AT HOME
Flexibility and mobility are key to improving kicks, stances, and overall movement in karate and all other kicking martial arts. Flexible hamstrings and hips allow you to kick higher, faster, and stronger with better balance and control. Plus, staying flexible will reduce the risk of injuries when snapping your kicks. Even Sensei Kwong and Sensei Carter stretch at home all the time! Stretching for 5-10 minutes even 3 times per week can make a difference. THAT’S ONLY 15 – 30 MINS FOR THE WHOLE WEEK! It makes everything in martial arts more fun and look cooler. Here are some hip and hamstring stretches:
Hamstring Stretches
Kneeling Hamstring Stretch – While kneeling on the floor, stick one leg out straight and lean forward to try to make your belly button touch your thigh. Hold for 30 seconds then switch legs.
Seated Forward Fold – Sit with your legs as far apart as possible in front of you. Without bending your knees, reach out as far as you can go and make your head touch the floor. Hold for 30 seconds take a short break and then try again.
